What the free Schufa data copy is
Everyone with a German address builds a Schufa file from their first contract onward. Article 15 GDPR gives you the right to see that file once per calendar year at no cost. Schufa calls the document the Datenkopie.
It lists your score, every account Schufa records under your name, and every company that checked you in the past twelve months. Most people find at least one detail worth questioning the first time they read it.
Who should request one
You just registered in Germany
Ask for the copy within two months of your Anmeldung. It confirms your name and date of birth match your registration and that no stranger's record attached itself to you.
A landlord or bank turned you down
A rejection nobody explains usually traces back to a single entry. The data copy names that entry and the company that reported it.
You plan to move or borrow
Corrections take weeks. Checking three months before you need a clean record leaves time to fix whatever turns up.
